Toddler Program

The toddler program serves children  18 months to 36 months of age.  This class is a small and intimate group of seven children with one lead teacher and one assistant.  It is a full day program (up to nine hours) Monday through Friday.  Parents can select two or more full days for their toddler.
 
The Montessori toddler environment is carefully prepared to aid the toddler in achieving independence.  It is a unique beginning of self development in a warm atmosphere of special understanding, respect, and support.  Our toddler program follows the Montessori philosophy that encourages vocabulary development, independence, and self-confidence for each child.
 
The room meets the physical needs of the children both in the size of the furnishings as well as space for movement.  Everything is designed to be safe, aesthetically pleasing, and exciting to the toddler.
 
The practical life area, which teaches basic lifelong independent skills, and which brings great self satisfaction and confidence is particularly emphasized with this group.  Skills such as dressing themselves, eating independently, using items and returning them, folding washcloths, watering plants, feeding fish, cleaning up, respecting others and their environment are beginning exciting skills for toddlers.  All of these skills are interrelated with language and phonics, beginning math with objects, fun with the senses, music and movement.
 
This curriculum prepares the toddler for  advancement to the preschool class.

7:00a.m. -7:30 a.m. First arrival, breakfast, free choice in the Garden Room
7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. Classroom Montessori learning activities
9:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Clean up, potty/diapering, handwashing
9:30 a.m. -9:45 a.m.  Snack
9:45 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Community meeting  and circle time (stories, songs, finger plays)
10:00 a.m.-11:00a.m. Outdoor activities weather permitting.   If inclement weather will use large indoor playroom.
11:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. diapering, potty, hand washing, lunch preparation
11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Nutritious lunch
12:00 p.m.-2:30p.m.   Rest time
2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Classroom Montessori learning activities  and pm snack 
3:30 p.m.-4:15 p.m.  Outdoor activities weather permitting.  If inclement weather, will use large indoor playroom.
4:15 p.m.-4;30 p.m.   Story time
 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.  Free choice
